Korean Minister Youngju Oh hosts SME Support Council in Dubai

November 2024Minister Oh Young-joo attended the ‘Dubai SMEs and Startups Overseas Missions Support Council’ meeting on 4th November 2024 to review the current status of the council’s operation and explore support measures to enable our companies to smoothly demonstrate their capabilities in Dubai.

Minister Oh Youngju visited the UAE and held a SME Support Council in Dubai, reaffirming the Korean government’s continued support and interest in the UAE

Minister Oh Youngju who visited Dubai GBC as her first schedule in Dubai, encouraged companies advancing into the UAE and inspected the status of SMEs advancing into Dubai and the status of support for companies advancing to the UAE.

Based on the business agreement signed between the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April, the SMEs and Startups Overseas Missions Council is currently operating in 25 overseas missions in regions where our companies are actively expanding into the region to support our SMEs and startups in securing overseas expansion bases and resolving local difficulties.

Minister Oh Youngju emphasized at the meeting, “The UAE is an important bridgehead for our Korean SMEs and venture companies to advance into the Middle East and is our largest trading partner. As the Dubai Diplomatic Missions Council plays the most crucial role in supporting local companies, I hope that it will continue to pay much attention and make efforts to resolve companies’ difficulties.”
She also requested, “I also hope that local businesspeople will actively utilize the council at any time if they encounter difficulties while conducting business.”

Dubai SMEs and Startups Overseas Missions Support Council

Dubai GBC opened in 2006 to support SMEs advancing into Dubai, one of the major trade hubs in the Middle East. It is located in one of the largest free economic zone in the UAE and is home to 18 Korean companies. The free economic zone supports local advancement such as providing office space and product localization (certification, product improvement, etc.).

Following her visit to Dubai GBC, Minister Oh Young-joo attended the ‘Dubai SMEs and Startups Overseas Missions Support Council’ meeting to review the current status of the council’s operation and explore support measures to enable our companies to smoothly demonstrate their capabilities in Dubai.
